HIKING – Slovenia Where the adventure begins

The Triglavska Bistrica Trail

Even if you are not planning to conquer any of the peaks that overlook this Alpine valley, the Vrata Valley itself is worth seeing. Take time for a three-hour walk and head along an excellently marked Triglavska Bistrica Trail to the gable of the valley under the Triglav northern wall. From Ros, the paths and trails continue along the Triglavska Bistrica stream, which springs up in the Vrata Valley. Follow the typical information boards of the Triglav National Park.
Trail length: 10.000 m

The Tromeja (Triple border) tourist route

Seven kilometres, where you will find out about everything you wanted to know about the formation of the village of Rateče, the pastures, and forests in the Karavanke Mountains, the Rapal border and the Triple Border, the crossroad of three nations and cultures. The Tromeja tourist route can be started in the centre of Rateče at the ethnographic site, the Kajžnik House and goes along the forest path towards the Peč Peak.

Planica – A trail through the valley

An interesting educational trail near Rateče branches off from the Upper Sava Valley. To the west, it is limited by the Ponca ridge, and to the east, the Mojstrovka and Cipernik mountains rise above it. The upper part of Planica continues in Tamar and Zelje, which is one of the most beautiful gorges in the Slovenian Alps, at the end of which rises Mt.Jalovec in its impressive form. The characteristics of this landscape are presented along the Trail through the valley.

Mojstrana – Kranjska Gora

Cycling Trail (D2) One of the more picturesque trails is the Upper Sava Valley Trail, which runs along the former railroad from Mojstrana, via Kranjska Gora, and into Italy. It runs from Jesenice to the border crossing in Rateče, totalling approximately 28 km. From here, you can continue towards Trbiž, Italy, passing by Žabnica to Tablja (Pontebba), or you can take a left turn after crossing the border and follow the Trail to the breathtaking Mangart lakes.
Trail length: 28.000 m

Vršič

Our most famous mountain pass needs to be conquered by every cyclist at least once. The road, built during World War I, which connects the Upper Sava Valley to the Trenta Valley on the Primorska side, has become a symbol of bicycle climbs. There are a total of 24 turns to the top.
Trail length: 11.800 m

Krnica

Along the Pišnica River, past Lake Jasna on the main road leading across the Vršič Pass to the Primorska side, we cycle to the heart of the mountains that close another south-facing valley, Krnica. For the entire way from Kranjska Gora onward, we can see the beautiful curtain of steep Julian walls to the heart of which, or better yet, to the foot of which, we are heading.
