This is a beautiful day hike in the Julian Alps of Slovenia. You start at the Vršič Pass, one of the highest roads in Slovenia, and hike to the summit of Slemenova Špica. Along the way, you walk through quiet, flower-filled valleys and enjoy spectacular views of the Julian Alps. On a clear day, you are also treated to views from Italy and Austria. This is usually done as a point-to-point hike, but we found a detour that keeps this hike interesting.
This hike is short, relatively easy, and filled with breathtaking views, so it’s perfect for active families and adventurous travellers. It’s a great way to get a taste of hiking in Triglav National Park without needing special equipment or doing a full-day hike.
If you are visiting this part of Slovenia, you will undoubtedly be driving to the top of the Vršič Pass, so why not throw a short hike into the mix and turn a great day into a spectacular one?
Before you take the hikes and climbs, please let yourself know about the weather conditions and take all essential things.
Jalovec, Vršič pass, Kranjska Gora. Jalovec is a 2645 meter-high mountain in the Julian Alps and is the sixth-highest peak in Slovenia.
Mangart – Vršič, Trenta. Indeed, With an elevation of 2.679 metres, it is the third-highest peak in Slovenia, after Triglav and Škrlatica.
Visoki Mavrinc – Vršič, Kranjska Gora. Indeed, Visoki Mavrinc is not above Vršič but slightly below it on the northern Kranjska Gora side.
Sovna glava, Vršič, Kranjska Gora. Sovna glava is a grassy peak standing at 1750 meters high, between Prisank and the alpine pass of Vršič.
Prisojnik – Prisank, Vršič pass. Prisank or Prisojnik, is a 2547 m high mountain above the valleys of Mlinarica, Krnica, and Suha Pišnica.
Mala Mojstrovka, Vršič mountain pass. Due to its relatively high starting altitude is among the most visited peaks in the Julian Alps.
It is the classic hike that practically all visitors to the Erjavčeva mountain hut undertake. Once you’re at Vrič, Slemenova špica, become simply a must-do walk.
Soča valley and Kranjska Gora are connected by a winding road that takes you over the highest Slovenian mountain pass Vršič.
Winter in the mountains can be tricky. Go to the mountains adequately equipped, and learn to use the equipment beforehand.
