This summer, public transport is stepping up to the plate, playing a pivotal role in curbing traffic congestion and tourist overcrowding at the Vršič Pass. The reduction in the number of buses, a change that’s already in effect, is a significant step towards a more sustainable future. This reduction, along with the upcoming barrier system, is set to be a game-changer in the 2026 summer season.

Compared to last year, the number of buses operating daily to Vršič has been cut in half. On average, only three buses per day now bring visitors to the top of the pass. However, there are alternative transportation options such as private shuttles and carpooling services that can help mitigate the impact of these changes. At the same time, the number of parking spaces at the summit has been reduced, while electronic traffic signage in Kranjska Gora continuously displays warnings that Vršič is fully occupied and that the road is intended for transit traffic only.

They also ensure that the huts can remain open and accessible to hikers, preserving the unique experience they offer.
